Week Five: Avoid Access Sugar

There are many reasons to avoid excessive sugar in our diets. Eating high sugar foods is commonly linked to obesity and all of its health-related concerns. Furthermore researchers at Harvard have found that regardless of a person’s weight, too much sugar in one’s diet greatly increases the risk of heart disease. AloeElite users with digestive disorders have even more reasons to avoid the repercussions of excessive sugar intake.

According to Dr. Joseph Mercola, “A diet too rich in simple sugars can lead to a whole host of negative consequences, from unhealthy yeast overgrowth (which can lead to leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, poor absorption of nutrients, excess gas, weight gain, and craving carbs).” Too much sugar has been proven to exacerbate digestive maladies such as acid reflux, indigestion, heartburn, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Perhaps most crucially for those with digestive disorders, an excess of sugar weakens the immune system, jeopardizing the promise of long-term healing.

For AloeElite users with autoimmune disorders such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the goal is, instead, to eat foods that support healthy immune function. Enjoy foods rich in antioxidants. Forego the momentarily jolt of simple-sugar ingestion for the sustained pleasure of good health. As a natural sweetener, consider Stevia instead.
