Exercise

ExerciseOur bodies are extraordinary machines, masterfully engineered and remarkably resilient. They do, of course, need upkeep, and staying healthy requires that we work our “moveable parts” so that they don’t get rusty. The point is not to exert ourselves to exhaustion (which ultimately puts unwelcome stress on the digestive tract) but instead to stretch, pivot, bend and move.

The experts at the Mayo Clinic note that we need to “Get regular exercise. Aerobic exercise — sustained physical activity that increases your breathing and heart rate — stimulates the activity of your intestinal muscles, helping push more food waste through your intestines more quickly”. Always exercise carefully, and when in doubt, consult your physician.

May we suggest that you exercise out of doors whenever possible? Breathing in fresh air and observing our glorious world has its own benefits.
